Overestimated and elevation to the rank of the most influential artistic figures of the twentieth century, the trumpeter Miles Davis - not the genre of jazz, unfortunately - is in fashion here in hick land: at least for the duration of the show "We want Miles" (a paraphrase of the album We Want Miles) elaborated by the French Museum Cité de la Musique and bench here by the Bank of Brazil and the SESC. In this blog, however, Miles is just another among the many creators of jazz already addressed. Yes, of course, Miles was genius - and it's not hard to understand why - but one of the mediocrities who fought here is precisely the thing the guy sum up in half a dozen jazz musicians, like jazz had no one but Miles, Coltrane, Shorter, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, etc.
But anyway, considering the repercussions of that show, and considering our pleasure and mission to spread among jazz lovers of the genre - beginners or jazzófilos - I present here a program of podcast that tries to draw a general profile of the master's work. It was July 2009, the anniversary year of at least three classic albums of Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool (1949), Kind of Blue (1959) and Bitches Brew (1969) - when I had just been asked to keep a blog within the Portal of MTV, where I stayed until early 2011 I also just read the book "Kind of Blue: The History of the Miles Davis Masterpiece" by Ashley Kahn. As I had already developed the idea of producing some podcasts commented to this blog, here in this space, so I took the idea to those responsible for editing german folk music music MTV Portal to make it in the new blog too: thus created the "Profile" Series to report through german folk music podcasts the work of great masters of jazz and Brazilian german folk music instrumental music, where Miles Davis, of course, would have to be addressed eventually. Well, to produce this program, I came across the arduous task of showing, at one time, all phases of a musician who began his career at 40 years of bebop, was a great melodist in its "cool" phase, german folk music has by hard bop, big band has released albums in style with "third stream", initiated the modal jazz, created the "jazz fusion" german folk music and flirted with rock, to pop and even hip hop in its final stage in the 80s and early 90s - that is, the guy really made his mark by almost all acontecidas changes in jazz from the beginning of its modernity. Below the albums covered:
