Hilde in Brazil writes: This December month has been full of sun, beach, christmas cookies, German Christmas traditions and plastikktre. But it has made me realize something incredibly important. It has made me realize that Christmas is not about all these traditions. What it really is about is that Jesus came down here for us became man among us. It is so incredibly easy to forget that in all traditions. On Sunday school today I got to be with the children to create invitations for a birthday party, and I think that my invitation to be my message for this Christmas. Magnus in Brazil writes: I walk around in shorts and sandals while hearing Christmas songs and seeing the big Christmas trees in the middle of Roundabouts. Still, it's comforting. I do not experience any stress with buying presents, and it makes it Easier two focus on the real meaning of Christmas: an action of divinity, wooden had unbelieveable (or believeable) Consequences for all of mankind. Like a father who stretches down to help his child, God stretches down to us two help us. Natasaha in China writes: I had not thought much about how Christmas mi came to be sooner than last week. Two of my students came up to me after an hour and would ask for something. Then they went and turned one of them and said "since we know that you are going home for Christmas and not be here, so we wish you a merry Christmas". The thoughts began to simmer in my head. Home for Christmas? I'm not going home for Christmas. I will be celebrating my 1 July away from home, with Tilla and Rannveig (her mother). I have not, even once, celebrated Christmas without family, nor away from the safe confines around a Christmas decorated house. How should this ever be a proper Christmas?
A week has passed since then, and things have changed. In China, the sun shines, it is feasible on the ground, but freezing in the air. Sometimes one would think it was March, not December. The Christmas spirit has been missing, but it comes creeping, even to me. In Lishui is not much Christmas decorations, but they hang some paper Santa faces in the windows, and some sparkling stuff has been hung up over the cash registers in the supermarket. The apartment has been cleaned (Chinese style - sweeping), some drawings have been hung on the walls, and we have decided the "Christmas tree" should stand. There are Christmas here too!
I'm in the middle of an experience out of this world, and whether I homesick minutes from time to time I would not have traded it for anything out stay! One can not have everything one wants in this world, and to sacrifice a Christmas is nothing for experiences that are left when I get home!
The 24 December, me and Carrie our own private celebration. When you walked into the room, it was like another world (Norway?: P). We had lights, Christmas music, pepper nuts, chocolate mousse (for me since Carrie was sick), reading of the Christmas story, pack opening and finished with three nuts for Cinderella! A really cozy evening. On Christmas day, I was awakened by band music. Outside the boarding went all the local school where we teach (over 1000 students) past the parade. There were bands, there were little girls dressed up in ill heels, costumes, internet store hair and makeup. The reason was sports day at school. Ironically, when it first happens on Christmas Day, but it actually has nothing to do with Christmas. r At night there were boarding students turn to celebrate. The evening started with singing, playing and voice. Christmas dinner was served sitting on straw mats and the menu was Korean barbecue. Students were full e five packs each: two towels, one or more items of clothing and a small gift from another student. After opening package took over the karaoke until late. The students enjoyed themselves, and I would say it was a family gathering though none were with loved ones. Immanuel home call themselves "the family", also we are a part (we also received gifts in line with the students). This evening testify that students at Immanuel home is privileged. They will take part in many things schoolmates their only dream of. Had it not been for Immanuel home they had probably not had any Christmas celebration this year, may not know about Christmas either. In addition to being able to live with a dozen skolekamerate r offers boarding a Christian environment, more opportunities, community and personal growth. The pupils are simply a better u
