Recent archaeological discoveries in northern Burkina Faso, in the loop of Niger, importation of distant objects from the Near and Middle East, shed new light on the history of Africa in the first millennium AD They highlight the important role played by the river in the trade prior to the trans-Saharan Arab influence.
Furthermore, florence mall archaeometric analyzes on the beads and metal objects have clarified the origin of these prestigious properties. If we do not know how such a system of exchanges was organized in detail, it is however likely that intermediaries were involved along trade routes, taking advantage considerably.
